In Sal, find two stores: Jimmy's - which sells the essential import foods and treats. And Toko 56: the only place in Central Java that sells (and delivers) bagels.
If you make it down the mountain to Semarang, there are a couple of other places I'd recommend: Ace Hardware, Book Bos (used books in English and it just doubled in size!), Kampung Laut (great restaurant about ten minutes from the airport that's right on the water).
Hey you guys look like for real missionaries now! I'll be sure to get a missionary barrel sent out real soon complete with real missionary gifts, like used tea bags, out of date clothes, and the little shampoo bottles from hotels.

Ran across your blog randomly.

Enjoy Sal3, it's quite the expat bubble.
