trip post 2
We arrived in West Kalimantan safely, and caught a cab to a friend's house, had lunch, sweat off a few pounds, had a couple quick meetings, and got some good rest that night. Bright and early the next morning, we flew out to visit some other friends who have been working in the jungle with a remote people group - for the past 20-something years. We learned a whole lot from them, and had a fantastic time visiting. We also took a ton of photos, and it may take me a few days to sort, edit and post those - Enjoy these for now!
And you thought YOUR commute was rough.
Ah! Pontianak. We wish we could describe it to you. Let's start by setting your oven to 250 degrees F. Let it get good and warm. Now go wrap yourself in plastic and jam yourself in there for a few hours. NOW you're enjoying Pontianak! It may (or may not have) something to do with the fact that the equator runs right through it - also the city is at sea level. We had fun despite the temperatures. In fact, today, back at home on Java, I needed a sweatshirt and socks (for our 80 degrees). I think we had gotten used to the heat up there to an extent.
For our flight into the jungle, everything needed to be weighed...including Nadia and her puppy dog :0)
