blewah dan pengatin

This week has been full of all sorts of things for us. Here are just a few of those things.

The bride and groom at a beautiful Javanese wedding (all of those flowers are fresh - and notice the coca cola and snacks on either side of the bride and groom... this was a very nicely done/fancy wedding). These two look like what I imagine the old Yogjakarta king and queen must have looked like in their royal regalia (back in the 600's or so). Very fancy. Very pretty.

My (favorite) tutor and her husband at her nephew's (see above) wedding. Isn't she pretty all dressed up? Those white things in her hair are bunches of fresh jasmine flowers. And the outfit she has on is traditional Javanese formal wear, called a kebaya. She had it made especially for this day - So pretty.

Here is one yummy way we like to cool off. This little treat is shredded blewah. Blewah looks exactly like acorn squash on the outside, but the meat inside looks and tastes exactly like a cantaloupe. When shredded and mixed with lime juice, water, sugar and a few ice cubes, it's a yummy cold treat.

Nadia suddenly very much likes doing the dishes. With my new melamine plate set, she is suddenly allowed to do them too. :0)
